To succeed, women think they m

Workplace attitudes have been laid bare in a series of reports out today.Findings from new research into the way we work nowadays show that:Women workers believe they must be attractive to succeed; Staff work 14.3 million days for free; Managers don't trust staff to work from home; Company executives are rejecting the traditional lunchtime drinking culture. A poll of 600 working women found two-thirds believed they had a better chance of breaking through the 'glass ceiling' if they are attractive although, ironically, most women also felt they had to show masculine qualities to succeed.                                                                                   Debbie Djordjevic, handbag.com editor, said, 'It's very surprising that in our current climate, women still feel that Gucci Earrings it pays to be more attractive and display masculine qualities to do well in the business world.'                              Researchers also found that men in senior business positions outnumbered women by more than three to one, with women directors usually found working in 'traditional' female industries such as health and social services.                              Meanwhile half of managers in smaller firms said they would find it difficult to trust their staff if they worked from home.                              Fewer than one in four fully trusted their employees.                              Managers questioned by business communications firm Inter-Tel Europe said they did not know how to monitor the performance of home-workers and had no idea how much it would cost to support them.                       fake rolex        Some of the 400 managers polled said they believed working from home could leave staff feeling isolated.                              Chris Harris, managing director of Inter-Tel Europe, said home working was a 'prickly subject' for many smaller firms.                              He added that the growth in home computers and broadband made flexi-working easier.                              But while many managers do not seem to trust their staff, workers are estimated to provide pounds 1.2bn of free work because they do not take up all their holiday entitlement.                              Employees are effectively doing 14.3 million days of work for nothing, according to a survey of more than 2,000 adults for online travel firm Expedia.co.uk.                                     One in eight of those polled said they rarely had a holiday from work, while one in 10 said they put in a working week of at least 50 hours.                              More than a third of those questioned said they believed workers were afraid to ask for time off, which was fuelling the UK's long-hours culture.                              One in four admitted they took a 'sickie' when they could not face going in to work.                              Meanwhile, two of the stereotypical mainstays of British working life - teamwork and lunchtime drinking - seem to have had their day.                              Almost half of employees complain they work in teams that regularly miss targets - often because people lack the skills to get the job done.
embroidered patches              Only one in 20 of those questioned said their boss listened to them and seemed interested in their welfare.                              Workplace expert Professor Cary Cooper commented, 'By recognising specific personality types and skill bases, a random group of individuals can be structured to become a highly effective team that delivers much more than the sum of its parts.'                              Prof Cooper said one of the main reasons why business teams failed was a workplace culture of too many chiefs and not enough indians.
